The university maintains the most important university library system within the UK, and, with over eleven million volumes housed on one hundred twenty miles (190 km) of shelving, the Bodleian cluster is that the second-largest library within the UK, once British Library. The Bodleian may be a legal deposit library, which suggests that it's entitled to request a free copy of each book printed within the UK. As such, its assortment is growing at a rate of over 3 miles (five kilometres) of shelving once a year.

The buildings cited because the university's main analysis library, The Bodleian, include the initial Bodleian Library within the previous colleges Quadrangle, supported by Sir Thomas Bodley in 1598 and released in 1602, the Radcliffe Camera, the Clarendon Structure, and also the New Bodleian Building. A tunnel beneath Broad Street attaches these buildings, with the Gladstone Link connecting the previous Bodleian and Radcliffe Camera gap to readers in 2011.
